Maine has three major whitewater rafting rivers: the Kennebec is a remote river with a rock wall gorge. It's great for kids, providing rollercoaster waves for the first half and smooth riding for the second half. The Dead River, offers much of the same beauty as the Kennebec. The Penobscot River lies on the outskirts of Baxter State Park, with an unforgettable view of Mount Katahdin, Maine's largest mountain. A common misconception is in Maine, you have to "rough it."
