When To Go To New England

New England is truly a year-round destination. Check out our brief New England seasonal travel tips information below.

Summer in New England

Lazy hazy days of summer, great time to visit the shoreline and its many quaint seaport towns, head to the beaches of Cape Cod or experience the majestic beauty of the mountains and lakes in Northern New England.

Fall in New England is known for its spectacular autumn colors and is considered by many to be the busiest time of year in New England.

Winter in New England is a skiers paradise. It's time to head to the New England slopes, go cross-country skiing or hop on your snowmobile and explore the trails.

Spring in New England is usually less predictable. It can be very wet, raw and damp. A word to the wise: Rural Areas experience mud season during April and black fly season is Mid-May to Mid-June! You can still enjoy the many spring activities of the region, maple sugaring in Vermont and New Hampshire and of course the Boston Red Sox begin their season!

New England Traffic Tip Be aware that weekend Cape Cod traffic along Route 6 can be brutal! Heading north to Maine along either Route 95 or Route 1 can also be a snarl. If you can travel the major routes during the week at off-peak hours, you should be okay. Travel apps: 10 Helpful Traffic and Navigation Apps
